September 23 24, Garden Hotel, Guangzhou
The Pearl River Delta is widely recognised as the fastest growing region of the worlds fastest growing economy. Indeed, in recent years, the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone of Guangdong Province alone has accounted for over one-third of Chinas total trade. Add in the world-class service centre of Hong Kong and the flourishing economy of Macau, you have a truly exciting, dynamic force in global business.
The South China Morning Post has been joining forces with the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce to organise the Pearl River Delta Conference each year since 2002. The PRD conference brings together influential thinkers from academia, government and the business community, with the aim of providing a practical approach to how PRD businesses be they SMEs, MNCs, or locally-owned corporations can actualise the benefits of the Delta and use it as a base to expand into the Pan-PRD. The conference places a special emphasis on information and interchanges that benefit businesses in a tangible way.
From the outset, the number of registrants and the scale of the event have increased, clearly demonstrating both the industrys thirst for more information about the region and the need to bring the two business communities physically closer. Reflecting this evolution, the 2004 conference moved across the border and was held in Zhongshan with the co-operation of the Municipal Government there, capitalising on the increasing number of active enterprises inside the Mainland.
This years conference entitled, Growth and Its Consequences is scheduled for Friday, 23 September and will be held at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou. This conference promises to be our biggest event yet with more sessions and over 400 speakers and delegates from Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangdong. It will look at the fast growing economy in this region and the problems and challenges and opportunities that this growth has brought to businesses.
New for this years conference will be an expanded programme based on delegate feedback from 2004. While the first day of the conference will see the traditional plenary and breakout sessions, an optional second day, Saturday, 24 September, will offer multiple site visits and leisure programmes to provide more networking opportunities for both interested attendees and sponsors.
The PRD conference offers a valuable opportunity for multinational companies, private business entrepreneurs and state-owned enterprises to mix and exchange ideas on business in the PRD. Through interaction with key government officials and representatives from the Deltas provinces, delegates have a unique opportunity to influence the business agenda of the region.
