South China Morning Post, The University of Hong Kong and Citigroup jointly present
The face of HK’s Future Workforce
Friday May 26, 2006, 39/F Atrium, Island Shangri-La, 9am - 12pm
As tomorrow’s economy takes shape, Hong Kong’s workforce will be crucial in meeting the challenges and reaping the rewards – but success can only be built on our education and immigration policies.
In this seminar, we ask how the Hong Kong government can take advantage of the skills and abilities of people from around the world – and how best to develop an education system that draws out the full potential of the existing population.
In particular, we will explore how economics and business can shape the debate – and how far our education and immigration policies should be tailored to meet corporate needs – and ask these vital questions:
To develop the kind of work force Hong Kong needs for the economy of tomorrow, Hong Kong needs to scrutinize its education and immigration policies closely.
- How should immigration policies be revised to make Hong Kong even more of a magnet for international talent?
- Does education in Hong Kong get the priority it deserves, and how well does it meet the needs of industry and commerce?
- Is training a government or a corporate responsibility?
- If free cross-border traffic works so well for Hong Kong’s finance and trade sectors, why can’t it be applied to people as well?
